Payroll & Bookkeeping Specialist

Our client is an established Enrolled Agent (EA) firm that has been serving the Punta Gorda community for nearly 40 years. Specializing in tax services, the firm also provides bookkeeping and payroll support to over 1,600 clients. With a dedicated and experienced team, they are now looking to add fresh talent with strong ethics and a long-term mindset.

Position Overview:
This role combines payroll processing and bookkeeping/accounting support. The ideal candidate brings strong experience, precision, and problem-solving ability—especially when it comes to manual payroll calculations and net-to-gross adjustments. The team is seeking someone dependable and proactive, with the initiative to grow within a close-knit firm.

Key Responsibilities:

• Full-cycle payroll processing using QuickBooks Desktop (Intuit)

• Transition support as the firm moves off QuickBooks Desktop by end of 2027

• Manual payroll calculations and net-to-gross computations (e.g., when setting specific withholding percentages)

• Handling payroll for small business clients, including quarterly and year-end filings

• Bookkeeping support including reconciliations and general ledger maintenance

• Collaborate with tax and accounting teams on related client matters

• Provide excellent client service and assist with scheduling appointments if needed on Fridays (during off-season)

Qualifications:

• Minimum 5 years of relevant payroll and/or bookkeeping experience

• Prior experience in small firm or professional services environment strongly preferred

• Strong understanding of payroll compliance and reporting

• Ability to perform manual calculations (not just system-driven entries)

• Familiarity with Intuit QuickBooks (Desktop version)

• Degree not required; strong hands-on experience is key

• Excellent work ethic, reliability, and team-oriented attitude

• Must be comfortable working fully onsite
